Switch It Up

One thing I always try to maintain with my workouts is excitement. Sure, I many not jump for joy at the thought of running, but like a lot of people, I get deathly bored if I’m doing an exercise for a long period of time. I will probably never love the elliptical for a cardio workout, but last night I decided to switch it up and try a a few different workouts.

To start, I did 10 mins. of interval training, alternating between 30 secs of running and 30 secs of sprinting. My goal is to keep working up until 15 minutes. After ten minutes of serious sweating, I headed down to the elliptical and did 20 minutes of intervals. Why does my foot fall asleep every time I use the elliptical?! I finished up with 10 minutes on the bike. I loved how different this workout was from what I usually do. I’ll definitely be doing this more often!


This morning, I wanted to use up a few over ripe bananas, so a smoothie was calling my name!

In the mix:

  • 1 c. skim milk
  • 1 1/2 overripe bananas
  • 3 frozen peaches
  • 1/2 tbsp. wheat germ
  • 1/2 tbsp. ground flax

Okay, it’s off to work!

  1. If I get too bored I’ll try to do intervals too and do like 10 minutes elliptical, 10 minutes treadmill, 10 minutes bike :D

    Hey Alexa! i definitely suffer from “treadmill ADD” so if I feel like doing something low-key I’ll usually bring a magazine or read a book on my kindle. But I’m looking to sweat then I’ll typically write out an interval workout that changes speed or hills every 1-2 minutes. That way I have something for me to pay attention to and time fliiiiies by [when you're having fun].

    A smoothie is a great way to start the day.

    Reading material is generally what keeps me entertained during the duller moments on the treadmill and bike.

    When I read the first few lines of your post, my first thought was “I HATE the elliptical. It always makes my foot tingle”. Then I finished reading and couldn’t help but giggle a bit at the fact that you have the same problem. I don’t know why this happens! And it’s always my left foot. So annoying.
