When I read some of your blogs, I’m seriously amazed at how much you guys switch things up in the gym. I feel like you all are freaks of nature.
I’m a serious creature of habit. Yoga, cardio and strength training are about as exciting as it gets around here.
So, the other day, in an effort to switch things up, I decided to give plyometrics a shot. Now, let me first say that I’m not completely new to this form of exercise. But this one was longer (tear) and there were things in there that I was completely lost about. It turned out to be quite the game-changer!
One-legged hop? What is this, kindergarten?
Yes, I really thought I had this one in the bag. Then, I got to the good stuff.
Box jumps? I completely underestimated the intimidation of a two foot box.
Tuck jumps? My booty will probably be sore from that for the next week.
It was like my body was saying, “Um, hello, I am NOT used to this, what are you doing to me?!”
Truth be told, it probably needed it. So I huffed and I puffed and I cursed under my breath.
I was a crazy mess afterwards. But, it was worth it!
In the end, my workout wound up looking like this:
*Rest for 60 seconds between each exercise*
If you don’t feel like Jello after, then I’m jealous.
Have you ever tried plyometrics? Have you done a new workout recently?

Plyometrics are soooo hard! They feel terrible during, but you feel awesome after
And they sure give you a great workout in a small amount of time, you go lady
okay you know me well enough by now, and you probably can guess that I looooove this routine!! yayyy so proud of you for challenging yourself and changing it up. Haha, I guess I’d be a freak of nature because it’s really hard to stick to one thing/method, so I’ve been doing something completely out of the ordinary lately!! And I’ve been using the tread and stepmill at the gym in addition!!
I know how much you love those…I think?
Ugh, pylometrics always kick my tush! Not sure if I could make it through an entire workout, but I like to pick out my favorites (read, the easier ones) and throw them into my full body circuits. Anything I can do to get out of squat jumps or burpees…man, those things bring out the sailor in me if you know what I mean!
That’s great you tried switching things up. This routine looks great
I’ve never tried plyo, but I watch my roommate do it with P90x. That stuff looks freaking intense!
I did cardio kickboxing last night and just said that I would punch things real hard for 45 minutes and I’d have to break a sweat right?! I was definitely sweating, but I’m not that sore today…not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing
One workout that seriously kicked my but was from Jessica at How Sweet It Is. Her Cupcake Circuit. Killer.
I am a big fan of shaking up my workouts, but have a really hard time forcing myself to do plyo or bootcamp-style routines. When I’m really in need I tend to make myself go to a class.
It’s the weirdest thing, but my feet can’t handle plyometrics. The rest of my body likes them though… except box jumps. Those scare me!
I have never tried this type of workout…but I would love to. I will try this in spirit of you very soon! I can promise you I WILL feel like jello!
Plyo is awesome!! Insanity was full of it! I’m pretty much like you and just enjoy cardio, weights and yoga mostly.
gahh burpees kill me every time I love plyo workouts although I always end up having sore knees the next day so typically I go with something a little lower impact although I have started taking a turbo kick class recently and am obsessed with it… its like kickboxing on steroids !!
